The Johnny Green : Do You Remember? TV Shows of our Childhood

Can you imagine and just go back in time to when you were about 5 or 6, and picture yourself sitting on the couch watching television? What shows do you remember, and what were your reactions to those shows?

Do you remember getting super excited every month for the new DCOM ?(Disney Channel Original Movie) to come out, or for the new episodes every Friday night on Nick? There are endless lists of the popular shows, and movies amongst the 90?s kids. Let?s compare and contrast the 90?s Disney and Nick to modern day.

90?s ??? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Now

That?s So Raven ?Disney ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Good Luck Charlie -Disney

The Amanda Bynes Show ?Nick ??????? ????????????????????????????????????? iCarly -Nick

The Proud Family ?Disney ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Phineas and Ferb -Disney

Hey Arnold ?Nick ?????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????????????????????????? Fan Boy and Chum Chum -Nick

Lizzie McGuire ?Disney ??? ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Shake It Up ? Disney

Drake and Josh ?Nick ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Victorious -Nick

Those are just some of the popular shows. I?m sure we can all remember them, and the reasons we watched them. The modern day shows? not so much. Now there is no hiding that we all once in a while go back to being a kid, and flip through the Nick and Disney channels, I know I do. Well, this is my reaction ?no, no, no, boring, lame, can?t they just play the 90?s shows?!? ?What about you? Can you see the difference?

What is the real reason that so many of the older kids want their 90?s shows back, and think they are better? I guess no one will really ever know for sure, but I think we all have a pretty good idea.? WHS Junior Kaitlyn O?Connell says, ?The shows when we were younger were just better, I don?t really know why. I guess they were funnier, and they had better actors. The scripts were a lot better too.?

I think we just related to the shows a lot better. Kaitlyn agrees with me, she also added, ?The shows back then made more sense to us because we were basically living them. The current shows are too advanced for us. We didn?t have cell phones when we were nine; we hardly even knew what they were.?

Once in a while an old show will air just out of the blue, and if my sister sits down and watches it with me her reaction is the same as mine when I watch her shows. She doesn?t really like them at all. She always asks what they are wearing, and what they are doing. I guess it?s normal. My sister wasn?t around in the 90?s to understand what we did for fun, what type of music we listened to, or even what we wore. She just thinks it all looks funny, and is weird.

Our childhood shows seemed more appealing to us, than the ones of today?s generation. ?I feel this is true because our time period was really different. Sure it wasn?t really that long ago, but it is way different now a days. ?That is because of a lot of different reasons. Like I said earlier it is vice versa with the kids of today?s generation.

Technology has changed, style has changed, schools have changed, and people have changed. In a show such as That?s So Raven there was an episode where Raven the main character was very excited because she finally got a house phone in her room. In comparison to that the show, in today?s Disney Channel hit, Good Luck Charlie, one of the main characters, Teddy, was excited when she got her Smart phone, and she claimed to not know what a house phone was. That is just one small, but very strong example of how shows differ now.

It may not necessarily be a bad thing that our ?time periods? are so different, but it wouldn?t hurt to be easily able to reminisce about our child hoods. When TV stations don?t air old shows any more, we really don?t have a way to watch them anymore. DVD?s were not common back then, all we had were VHS tapes, and well let?s face it, not many of us have a VHS player any more. So it kind of stinks that we can?t really go back in time and appreciate what we miss a little bit more.

We 90?s babies will always like our shows and movies better no doubt about it. I am sure all the 90?s babies would not mind a throw-back week or two on television.
